Tetley Tea for Soya

I'm personally not a fan of soya milk in my tea but Tetley have produced a new type of tea, branded by Alpro Soya, designed specifically to use with soya milk.  I think it's wicked - although I'm yet to try it.  It's good to see dairy intolerances and ethical choices being recognised.

I'm going to give it a whirl at some point.  It's soya milk curdling in coffee that I struggle with.  Has anyone seen this in the shops or tried it yet?

Ethical Threads.

EARTH SHIRTS is a new company based in Uxbridge, West London. All of their shirts are printed on 100% organic cotton, are sweatshop free, fair trade with some nice designs to top it all off. My favourite is the 'Beard Lover' shirt...but maybe I am beard bias?

The site us up now and you can order shirts right away, but the official launch is on Earth Day on the 22nd April. They've also been nice enough to include a link to the Secret Society of Vegans.

Be sure to take a look at www.earthshirts.co.uk.

Mel Broughton conviction overturned

An animal rights campaigner jailed for 10 years for plotting a fire bomb attack on Oxford University has had his conviction overturned.

Mel Broughton 48, of Semilong Road, Northampton, was jailed at Oxford Crown Court in February last year after he was found guilty of conspiracy to commit arson.

He appealed against his conviction earlier this year and, after taking more than a month to consider the verdict, Lord Justice Thomas returned to the Court of Appeal today to quash the conviction.

The judge, who heard the appeal with Mr Justice Kitchin and Sir Geoffrey Grigson, said an error in the way the trial judge summed up the evidence to the jury meant the conviction was "unsafe".

After an application by crown prosecutors, the judge ordered that Mr Broughton, who was not present in court, be retried on the allegation as soon as possible.

Crazy Arm

Crazy Arm

Check out Plymouth's finest, Crazy Arm who have just released their debut record 'Born To Ruin' on Xtra Mile Recordings (former home of UK politic-punk heroes Million Dead). The band are all vegan/vegetarian, internationalist and atheist; identify with human and animal rights struggles; and support the efforts of grass-roots activists worldwide.

The band were born of NoComply and The Once Over Twice, and although forming in May 2005, it wasn't until their respective bands split up a year later that they became a more serious concern. The band describe themselves as "Fugazi with banjos, but without banjos". Sounds interesting? Hit them up on the web for a taste.

Check out Lush for animal-friendly body care!

I know a lot of vegans who have got the food side of things down, but worry about how to live fully animal-free. I've even known some have avoided washing their hair just to make sure they weren't using animal-derived shampoo. Disgusting, but thorough, I guess. However... If you're not sure how to keep yourself squeaky clean then check out Lush. They also have a worldwide site here.

Lush were founded in 1994 by husband and wife team Mark and Mo Constantine, both vegetarian. All of their products are made from organic fruits and vegetables, they totally oppose animal testing and most of their products are clearly marked as vegan. They usually bear the Vegan Society logo, but check them out on an individual basis as a small percentage of them contain beeswax, honey, free range eggs or lanolin. 65% of their products are also preservative free. So they're ticking a lot of good boxes!

They have stores in most major cities in the UK, as well as tons worldwide, but you can buy via mail-order and online. Definitely worth hitting up for soaps, deodorants, shower gels, bath bombs, hair products and shaving foams. And more besides!
